I want to add a strap button to my Classical guitar because I want to play standing up, and I'm tired of the footstool - sitting down hurts my back. Is it safe to add a strap button? What if I insert a block of wood through the sound hole to the bottom of the body to drill through it for a strap button? Any suggestions?

Answer
You can add one or two strap buttons, depending on your preference. Since most (if not all) classical guitars don't come with any, you'll need one at the tail of of the body, if using the strap with a loop around the headstock, and possibly a second on the neck heel. You don't need to add any blocks of wood, there should be a block inside the body at the tail where you can install it. If you want a second one, look at the following site and video:

There's also a strap made for classical guitars, etc that clips onto the guitar's sound hole, like this picture shows: http://www.tasset.com/images/bg/gcm3.jpg

Here's one for $15: http://www.amazon.com/Levys-Leathers-Nylon-Classical-Guitar/dp/B0007WPHC2
