Q. I am beginning to play the guitar and I am starting to get good. I want to play in my church youth group this fall, but the question is, do I need an acoustic electric? I have been playing on my brothers old acoustic guitar (martin dx-1) but, I have seen people playing with acoustic guitars that plug in to an amp. What should I do, and if I need to buy one, what guitar?
Answer
Nah. You don't need an acoustic-electric. For a smaller room and not a ton of people an unamplified acoustic will do the job fine.
If you're leading worship services and need amplification, you could put a mic on the guitar or just buy a pickup and install that, which will make your current guitar an acoustic-electric.
