Hi, im wanting to get new guitar inlays. The AC/DC thunderbolts. It says its a dotbuster and im not sure if that means stick it on like a sticker or actually cut and install?

Answer
I had custom inlays done on a Hamer bass I ordered back in the mid-80's (it was a modulated radio wave across the whole neck). That was $400 to have done.

I'm figuring that's about what it would cost you today to have your existing inlays pulled, the fret board routed, and new inlays cut and installed.

It's not the material that's expensive (unless you're using high-grade abalone), it's the labor.

It what you're talking about are stickers, save yourself the aggravation...they'll look great as long as you don't touch your guitar. But, as soon as you start playing they'll come off at the worst possible moment (right in the middle of your big solo).

How can I find out what kind of guitar I have?

It is an acoustic guitar that my parents got me for Christmas when I was 16. (30 years ago) I know it had the brand sticker inside it but it has been removed. All I have is what I think is the serial number (maybe) and that it is made in Korea. I believe it is a solid top and solid back, has adjustable saddle, is sunburst design, and has pearl inlay on the fretboard. I know that isn't much to go on...sorry.

How do you get your name on the neck of your guitar like Taylor Swift?

Q. I've been wanting to get my name across the neck of my guitar like Taylor Swift. But, I have no idea how. Do you have to like order it? Do you have to get the neck done custom? Can you get a sticker? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Answer
If your name is Taylor, Washburn, Martin, etc you're lucky....your name will be on the top of the guitar. When you see it on the fretboard of the guitar, it's done with inlay...just like the marker dots. You have 2 options: Special order the guitar, or have a luthier or artist do the inlay for you. If you have a guitar you want it done to, look for local instrument builders. They will be able to do the work...or steer you toward somebody who can. Be prepared to spend some money. Also realize that if you put your name on the guitar, the resale value goes down. Unless your name is the same as somebody famous, you might want to stick to flower and vine inlays.....or leave the guitar alone and buy a strap with your name on it.

Is it possible to customise your guitar fretboard?

Jake :]

I know that it is possible to scallop your fretboard in order to make bending and shredding easier.

However is it possible to add inlays to your guitar fretboard yourself?
Links to guides would be appreciated as I couldn't find one.

Thanks. :)
~Jake
I would not like to buy a new fretboard as it is too expensive, I would like to do it myself, as that would be relatively cheap.
Yeah, its a crappy guitar.

Answer
You'd probably be better off with putting stickers and/or drawing on it with a marker. Inlaying requires skill, not saying you wouldn't be able to do it, but it could turn out looking terrible or affecting playability. Google "guitar inlay tutorial" or here's a link to a very detailed tutorial on inlays-

What is everything I would need to begin playing Ukulele?

Dalton

I want to start playing the Ukulele and I want to know some of the basic things I will need, besides the Ukulele.
~Thanks!

Answer
Ukes don't really requite too much of a starter kit. If you really wanted just the basics you can just get the ukulele and be on with it (and download a free uke tuning app of find a website) But, if you are willing to spend a bit more these are the things i reccomend -

-A tuner (an electric guitar tuner is fine, as long as it can tune in the key of C which is normal guitar key. Tune the strings from top to bottom to GCEA)
(not so necessary things)
-A case. You really don't want it to get scratched and banged up.
-If you'd like you might want something to pretty it up you might want a nice fretboard sticker or something (for example -

- A stand. Without a stand it will be falling and getting knocked over all the time when you aren't using it.
- Although it is traditionally played without, you may also want to get a pick. It's all preference really so i recommend that you see yourself whether you like pick or hand style playing.

For the uke, i find mahalo or lanakai to be the best for begginers. A good one for you would probably be between 50-80 dollars (US/Canadian)

To help learn i recommend you go to youtube and www.ukuleleunderground.com and http://www.ukulele.nl/chordfinder.php (try the play along songs!)
