What should I do for a kill switch on guitar?

I want to install a kill switch on my guitar, but at the same time, I am nervous about messing with all the electronics, because I don't really know what I'm doing with it. Currently, I imitate a kill switch by turning the bass tone knob on the guitar to 0, and the treble tone knob to 10. In order to kill the tone, I toggle back and forth between the pickup selectors. It works pretty well, but it doesn't completely cut out the bass tone, so I want a more effective solution.

I did this to my guitar a while ago. The nice thing is it's incredibly easy to do and you don't need to mess with what's already there - you're just tacking something on to the end.

You can get the parts from any electronics supplier, like Radio Shack. You'll need a switch. This can be a toggle switch, but I much prefer a pushbutton. If you get a pushbutton, get a momentary push-to-make switch. You'll also need some 24 guage wire.

Solder two bits of wire (maybe like 10cm each) onto two legs of the switch (middle leg and one of the outside legs if it's a toggle switch). Drill a hole in your scratchplate and mount the switch in it. Now solder one of the switch wires to your signal wire, and the other to ground. The signal wire is the one that connects to the tip of the output jack.

Now when the switch is closed, you ground the signal, causing the output to fall silent.

I have a squier telecaster and I was wondering where I have to solder in the switch I have. I have the right switch and everything, I just have no idea where i'm supposed to wire it in.

Here it is below. It requires some drilling and soldering, but IM guessing you knew that already and are ok with doing it. Its only a Squier, so it doesn't really have collectability, so go for it!!!

This guitar has a killswitch and it does not cost a lot. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this guitar or with a guitar with a killswitch. What would the killswitch do on this guitar, and what sounds would it produce?

killswitches should be illegal. they kill people. you hit the killswitch and it shoots a bolt of lightening to the nearest person that isnt you. these guitars are commonly used in assasinations because all you have to do is get close to someone and hit the killswitch. do not get this guitar. it will kill your loved ones.

I want a kill switch on my guitar, but I don't want to risk wrecking my guitar by drilling holes in it myself. Anyone know where I can get one professionally installed?

I live in Massachusetts, around the Boston area.

This isn't a complicated modification at all. Look in the phone book (does anyone still do that) for Guitar Repair or Luthier in your area.

It involves adding a SPST switch to short the output of the guitar. It's shouldn't run you more than $50.

how do you install both a kill switch, and a switch to turn the second coil of a hum-bucker pick-up?

A kill switch is probably the simplest thing to add to your guitar.

All you need is a momentary on button. Wire it up to the two terminals of the output jack and you're set.

Wiring up a coil split is a different thing, and there are many ways to do it. Assuming you've got a 4 conductor pickup (which you need in order to do coil-splitting), the easiest thing to do is get yourself a set of Duncan Triple Shots. Seeing as you've got a strat-style guitar, where the pickups are mounted into the pickguard, that option is out.

Like I said, there are lots of ways to wire up a coil-split. This site has a whole bunch of diagrams for different setups. Find the one that best describes what you're trying to do.

Don't worry about the killswitch thing. Like I said, that's a super easy addition to any guitar.
