Q. I am looking for a cheap, decent guitar capo for my Yamaha Acoustic Guitar.

Answer
Spend $22 and get a Shubb capo:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Shubb-Deluxe-S-Series-Steel-String-Capo-361502-i1130186.gc

Any decent capo (like the Kyser quick change) is going to cost around $15 anyway. Spend $7 more and get the Shubb. If you want cheaper, this one is good at $16 (I have one and it works fine):
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Kyser-Quick-Change-Capo-6-String-751482-i1130238.gc

Don't buy the strap on ones or a cheap spring one. They'll break or be loose and leave your strings buzzing. They also tend to slide around and bend strings as you're putting them on the guitar so your guitar will sound out of tune. I have one of these though and it basically works for $7:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Dunlop-Pro-Curved-Guitar-Capo-100050570-i1165596.gc

I would absolutely avoid the $2 ones with the plastic tube and elastic strap.

How much should I sell my guitar for?

I have a 2008 FG700S Yamaha acoustic guitar that's in mint condition along with a soft shell carrying case with straps for carrying it on your back. I was wondering how much I should sell both for as a package or each separately?

Answer
A new FG700S would cost $199. I've seen them on sale brand new for $149 before. But I've also looked at them on Ebay and used ones sell pretty close to $150 because they're a decent quality guitar for the money. With the bag and all I'd ask $150 for it and see if you get that. You can always lower the price if it doesn't sell at $150.

I was at the music store and I played this really cool Yamaha acoustic guitar that was really cheap. I was wondering if I would just be better off getting a Gibson or Fender? By the way I already have a Fender electric guitar and a Epiphone acoustic and I usually prefer Fender over Gibson.

Answer
I have had many guitars over the years. Fenders, Yamahas, Epiphones, and Taylors. Yamaha was my first acoustic guitar. It was 20 plus years old and still sounded great. Fenders and Epiphones are going to cost more because of the materials they are made out of. Yamahas are cheaper, but still damn good for their prices. I dont make a choice over the next because of the name. Its all about the sound that hits your ears.

How can I make guitar chords sound clearer?

guitar yamaha acoustic
 on Yamaha: Acoustic - kleeborp's Pictures | Ultimate-Guitar.Com

Q. I am just starting to play the guitar, and I'm learning the song "Barriers" by David Archuleta. I can play the chords pretty well, but the chords sound kind of muffled and sometimes there is a buzzing sound. My guitar is a Yamaha acoustic guitar. How can I make it sound clearer with a better tone?

Thanks.

Answer
For most of the chords you're probably playing, you thumb should be drapped over the top of the neck.

This means..you almost have to apply a bit of pressure with the palm of your hand, or the fleshy area below the first finger...to help your fingers on the fretboard form the notes...almost like giving the guitar neck a gentle squeeze with your hand.

To start with...play each note individually within the chord to ensure you have a good clean note..as someone said, your finger should be just behind the fret and not on top of it.

Once you can play one good clean note...add the next finger needed for the chord...continue this until the whole chord is formed.

Still having problems? Look at the note that doesn't seem clear.

Is it touching a higher fret when you depress it? ( You made need a set up...usually $35..especially if you hear buzzing)

If it's been over 6 months since you've changed strings...change them.

If the chords sound muffled..inspect your fingers...are fleshy areas from your fingertips touching other strings where they shouldn't be?

Think of your fingers as little ballerina dancers...they have to come straight down on top of the fretboard...you made need to rotate your hand/wrist around so your fingers can come straight down.

Best of luck, and keep pickin; till those fingers bleed.

Can i use an acoustic guitar to do classical guitar lessons?

I'm gonna start doing classical guitar lesson's but i already bought a Yamaha acoustic guitar (good sound). Should i give it back and buy a classical guitar. What would be the music difference?

Answer
It's not a good idea to use a steel string guitar for classical lessons. The fretboard is curved and not nearly wide enough, plus the steel strings will just not generate the tone that classical music requires. If you like the one you have now, look into getting an inexpensive classical guitar.

As a player myself, I'd go with the Yamaha. But, if money is a problem, check out used guitars. You always get your monies worth.
