What's wrong with my guitar and how do I fix it?

I was playing my electric guitar (Epiphone Les Paul Special-II) when it suddenly stopped playing. On the clean and drive channels, the sound suddenly turned extremely low to point of being barely hearable. It doesn't sound as bad with overdrive on, but I still, I have no idea why this happened or what to do. The guitar is only 9 months old and has been fine since I got it. What's the problem and what should I do?

The problem is going to be either the amp, the cable, or the guitar. You have to eliminate what is working to figure out what isn't.

Did you try different positions on the toggle switch on the guitar to see if it's a pickup problem?

Also, try a different cable to see if something happened there. Cables and connectors are normally the weak link in any audio system.

Do you have access to another amp to try? Take your guitar and cable and try them in another amp. If they work there, then your amp has a problem.

I want to teach myself to play bass guitar what do i need to do?

well title pretty much says alot of it.
firstly any advice on what kind of guitar to buy first ( i live in england and have about £150 that i can spend). i know that i should really buy a cheap one first to see how it goes before buying something with real quality.

any advice on how to start and/ or any good websites with lessons or advice??

Buy the instrument a step or two up from 'the cheapest.'

The range price you are looking at is about right. Maybe a bit more.

Find some songs with strong, yet simple basslines like "Twilight Zone" from Golden Earring. If you can keep that line up for six minutes, no flubbs, no change in meter (consistency is more important than flash in a good bass player) you'll be well on your way!

It isn't that hard to be a decent bass player. It can be VERY hard to be a GREAT bass player, especially when you get to advanced techniques, but in pop music, you can usually just play 8th notes all day.

Pardon... about price range... the 'cheapest' will crap out fast, and always sound like junk. You'll feel like you're never getting better. The step up from there will be good enough to last you a few years with care. Once you've been playing around a year (depending... your mileage may vary) you can begin to appreciate the differences in more expensive instruments if you wish to continue (and I hope you do!)

How do I tune an electric acoustic guitar with a built in tuner?

I just got an electric acoustic guitar for my birthday and it has a tuner built in. I can tune a guitar but with this tuner instead of saying the strings letter it says a number. Does anyone know what the numbers mean or the correct numbers?

Probably the string numbers 6E,5A,4D,3G.2B,1E . Most built in tuners show a letter, maybe there's another mode you can select. Check the manual.

Yes! Learning music theory would definitely help you have a better understanding of music, of guitar, and would make it easier to learn new music and write your own. You can find a tutor, a friend that knows music theory, or go online and learn music theory, which will be harder because you are the only one being accountable for yourself and don't have a personal relationship with your teacher.

What are the things you need to know to teach yourself guitar?

I just want to know some things that I need to know to teach my self how to play guitar. I've looked everwhere in my area and I can't find a good guitar teacher so I figured why not teach my self it will probably make me a better guitarist anyway. I'm 15 by the way.

That's the age I got started too.

Besides all the teaching aids as chord books; CD lessons; both audio and DVD; and all the websites around to choose from... there are two other elements you might want to consider. But don't give up on looking for instruction later with someone who has the experience.

Recording of your playing, by any number of methods, so that not only you will hear your progress but have that second guitar besides solo to work with. The other, is having a playing buddy to bounce off of when learning and talking shop with each other.

It can be done. But it will depend upon your love for the instrument and the music it can provide and what you will be able to create as you progress in the adventure of guitar playing. Dedication and making time, it may just become an enjoyable hobby at the least.
