Rachel

Im really interested in learning how to play guitar. The thing is id have to teach myself somehow because there are no classes available in my area. What do you suggest?

Answer
Like anything else in life, learn by doing.

Get to a music store or GC.

Check out the learning aids offered up and get a few things as the manuals, chord charts, CD and DVD that they should have available.

Buddy up with someone who is wanting to learn as well, or is already into guitar and learn from each other as a further incentive and to keep things rolling.

All this without having to bother with your PC or depending upon the Internet and any website.

All up to your real desire, continued interest and personal disciplines in learning on your own.

i want to learn electric guitar. I would like to buy a program that will help me.

Answer
yes there are many places you can buy a program which can teach you guitar. Yup they work, but have you seen professional guitar players, none of them used any program. They all teach them selves or get a teacher. You could probably get a friend to teach you. Or do what i do learn techniques and songs. Go on Google and type in things like techniques. One would be legato(helps you shred). Learn how to read tabs and go to ultimate-guitar.com and learn songs. You could probably spend the money on that program on a good teacher who you can ask questions. Use the internet its limitless, or get a good buddy.

I just want to know some things that I need to know to teach my self how to play guitar. I've looked everwhere in my area and I can't find a good guitar teacher so I figured why not teach my self it will probably make me a better guitarist anyway. I'm 15 by the way.

Answer
That's the age I got started too.

Besides all the teaching aids as chord books; CD lessons; both audio and DVD; and all the websites around to choose from... there are two other elements you might want to consider. But don't give up on looking for instruction later with someone who has the experience.

Recording of your playing, by any number of methods, so that not only you will hear your progress but have that second guitar besides solo to work with. The other, is having a playing buddy to bounce off of when learning and talking shop with each other.

It can be done. But it will depend upon your love for the instrument and the music it can provide and what you will be able to create as you progress in the adventure of guitar playing. Dedication and making time, it may just become an enjoyable hobby at the least.

Welcome to the world of axes.

p.s.: Hey,MJ. 'House of the Rising Sun' was the first song on the guitar I could play all the way through. Thanks for that input buddy. I know I am one. (With the guitar, that is.)

I really like him. i feel like there is a bubble isolating us from the world when we are together. <3

Answer

I bought a Peavey guitar from a buddy a few days ago and when I play the high E string on the first fret it seems to vibrate on the second fret a bit so it sounds off to me. My main question is: Is there something that I can do to fix this, or do I have to bring it in somewhere and have them look at it?

Answer
In my opinion a professional setup is always a good idea. Should run you $40 or less.

I want to learn how to play the guitar and I'm caught in between buying an acoustic and an electric. I have a friend that is willing to sell me an electric and an acoustic for the same price. So the price isn't a big issue, I would just have to buy an amp. What should I buy?

Answer
So Christian, your cute but desturtion? yikes..
I would suggest an electric because of ease of playibility, but if you have a shitty electric with a shitty amp then you'll sound well..shitty, and your motivation will suffer..
On the other hand, a lame acoustic will be hard to play and wont stay in tune so that would suck too,
You didnt specify what kind of guitars your buddy had or what kinda music you like so...
