I have an Epiphone Les Paul Classic, and looking through the internet I came accros the terms quilt top and plain top. What are they and what are the differences?
Oh and I forgot Goldtop.
Answer
It's just looks, doesn't affect the sound. The plain top LP is just what it sounds like, no fancy wood grain. The quilted top and flame top have a very unique wood grain, but it is just for show. The gold top is also what it sounds like...gold on the top. Look closely at the pics of the quilt and flame top and you'll see the difference in the grain.
