My wireless guitar won't sync up with my xbox 360. ?

I turn on the xbox 360 hit the little x at the top of the guitar and then press the little black button by the headphone input (i think) and the green lights spin in circles looking for the xbox. It does this for maybe 30 seconds and then its green again, but nothing is synched up. What could be wrong?

Maybe the guitar needs new batteries...
try turning on the xbox 360 with the guitar first
