I am currently buying an ipad 2 and i want to turn it into a mini studio. what are the best apps and plug ins that i can buy to record guitars and bass? as well as what the best wires i can get so i can actually plug my guitar into it? my friend told me to get a guitar jack but im not sure what to do.

Answer
Honestly, you should have stuck with laptop instead of the iPad...sure, you have GarageBand for iOS, but what do you really expect to do in terms of real music recording compared to something like Reason running on a Windows laptop, which would cost as much as the iPad option but is infinitely more useful and powerful?

my guitar jack is damaged and the wire inside is broken off and i want to reconnect it but i think i need a solder to be able to do that but i don't have one and i wanna be able to do that but is there any other way to repair it without a solder?

Answer
The correct way to repair that is to solder it back. If you are not comfortable with soldering it back, take it to a guitar store and the tech should be able to solder it for a nominal fee... maybe $10. Don't try gluing it, it will just mess up your jack and you will have more repairs down the line.

Where can you find a replacement VOX Valvetronix power cord and guitar jack?

I have a VOX Valvetronix amp and my idiot older brother has misplaced the the power cord to it. Where is the best place to find said replacement as well as a guitar jack to plug into the amp itself since that seems to be missing as well. Thanks!

Answer
The power cable is just a standard plug. The one in the back of your computer will work. You can find replacements at drug stores, Radio Shack, hardware stores, Best Buy, and of course guitar stores.

The instrument cable is a standard 1/4'' jack and the cable is shielded. This you can find at Radio Shack, a guitar store, or Best Buy. Make sure you get an 'instrument' cable. Speaker cable looks similar and will actually work but it's not shielded and you'll get electrical interference messing up your signal.

Connecting a Stereo speaker to a guitar amp?

I have a small 40Watt amp with a emulated head phones port, a huge speaker, and a guitar jack with both wires exposed on one end.
If i plug the jack end into the headphones port and connect the two exposed wires of it into the + and - end of the speaker.
Shouldn't it play through the speaker now?

Answer
It would have been nice to know what brand and model of amp you have.

None the less, what is likely happening is that you are using a mono guitar cable (2 wires), and the headphone jack is stereo. Depending on how it's wired, the mono plug could be shorting out the signal.

Try plugging in the cable just until you fell the first click (there will be about 1/8" of the barrel of the plug still showing). See if that works.

You should hear something, although as another poster mentioned this is not an ideal situation.

Good luck.
