I am looking for a looper for an acoustic guitar?

My Boyfriend mentioned that he would love a looper. Unfortunately I don't know much about music and all. So I am curious to know what I should get him... What the best is out there? I was looking at a Jamman, and I heard that the boss brand is good. Any suggestions?? I will be getting it for him for Christmas and I would like to keep it under $250

I've had three loopers and they all have their good & bad points. Right now I own the Boss RC20 loop station and it's really easy to use and the sound quality is almost perfect. It has some things I don't like, but for the money ($225.00 on ebay) it's pretty good. I had a Boomerang phrase sampler too, and it was amazing. Very easy and fun to use, but cost 400 bucks used. I ended up getting rid of it because setting it up live on unfamiliar sound systems was a total nightmare. Finally, I also had a Line 6 DL4, (300 dollar range) which was the best sound quality and easiest for me to use, but it blew up on a gig and I'm left with the Boss. KT Tunstall uses an Akai Headrush and it sounds perfect and looks easy to use. And from what I've seen, they are under the 250 dollar range too. That might be a good one to check out.

In short, there is no "best". But I'd check out the Akai Headrush, and the Boss is pretty decent for the money.

I do not believe there is anything in your price range. So, save your money and in the meantime, you can practice with Audacity (free recording software). It will not work for a live performance, but, you can record and playback with it and it should work great for practice while you are saving up for a loop station. Here is what is available ...

I DO NOT recommend the Electro-Harmonics or Rocktron Loopers. They just do nto sound very good. You need to sound like a professional if you intend to do anything with your music. So, the very best equipment with the best sound is BOSS. How does Trace Bundy the guitarist have his guitar riffs loop as he plays?

When he performs, he plays the guitar by himself but loops the chords with machines he presses with his foot. It sounds like he is playing the guitar with a full ensemble. How does he do that?

Tracy uses a Digi-Tech JamMan looping pedal. You press the foot pedal once to record your guitar track, then press it again to stop recording and start the playback. With this particular looper you can layer several tracks on top of one another and play along with them.

What is the best deal on a guitar loop pedal?

I want to get a looping pedal for my guitar (something that I can press down, play some chords, and then it plays them back over and over again so I can play over them). Im looking at guitar center, but I'm not sure what the best brand and what exactly I should be looking for in one. Basically, please give me advice on a brand, where to get it, how much it should cost, and what specs it should have.

Dude, if you can afford it the Line 6 JM4 is incredible. It is expensive, $329 but calling it a looper is a slap in the face. I bought mine at GC. It is basically just the brains out of the Spider Jam. Obviously you can loop, but it also has hundreds of great models and hundreds of drum tracks, not drum machine crap, but actual drummers like Carmine Appice, Jason Bonham, etc. laying down killer grooves to play chord progressions over. It also has hundreds of full jam tracks to play lead over. Whether you are looping or playing with drum/jam tracks you can record and over-dub right on the JM4. You can save 24 minutes of CD quality recording to the on-board memory or add a 2 GB SD card and get over 6 hours of recording. You can then transfer to your PC via SD and burn your recordings to CD. There are also inputs for bass/keyboard and an XLR input for a vocal mic. You can basically do everything from this one piece of equipment. A little expensive compared to a regular loop station, but is by far the coolest and most helpful thing I have ever purchased concerning guitar. If you just want a basic Loop Station get the Boss RC-2 but for another $140 you get the some of the best musicians in the world as your personal jam band and full recording capabilities.

What should i practice to become good at lead guitar?

Q. I want to become good at lead guitar and guitar in general. Right now im really good at power chords and stuff but i think its time to go outside the box and do what i aspire to do- lead guitar. however i dont know what to practice. Help me out? Thanks

Seriously, listen to some great blues sax players. They are great at improvising. If you can play your guitar and make it sound like a saxaphone you'll know you've got some skills. You said you wanted to get "outside the box".

As for guitar, the best thing you can do for playing lead is to know your scales inside out and upside down in all 5 positions. With my more advanced students I like to just play a chord progression and tell them what key to play in and have them improvise. After a minute or two I'll tell them to modulate to another key and see how well they can get there. You really have to know your scales well though. It's not that difficult really if you know the patterns in the 5 box positions. Get a good scale book and just work on for an hour every day.

Also, get a looper pedal so you can lay down a rhythm loop and jam over it. I use my iPad for this but a looper pedal would be good. I also have a drum machine on my multi-effects pedal, so I usually have that going when I'm practicing just to keep a steady beat. Keeping on beat is very important as well for playing lead.

Playing good lead guitar isn't necessarily so much about technical skill as it is about knowledge of the guitar and a good feel for music. You have to know what you want to play and where to play it on the neck. If you can't sing what you want to play you won't be able to play it. When you listen to a song, try singing a lead part (using "bops" and "beeps" or something like that). When you get something you like, figure out what notes on the guitar those bops and beeps are. A lot of great lead players either do that out loud or in their heads while they're playing. Otherwise, your leads are just random runs up and down scales and sound very mechanical, not musical.

In short I want to run 2 different guitar tracks to 2 different amps. One loop channel for the rhythm and one for the lead. I want to do this to get a separate guitar tone and not have the loop all wrapped up in one amp/tone.

I know the RC-30 is a two pedal stereo setup. If you haven't already, you might want to look at it. I have never really used a loop pedal so I don't know much about them.

I'm trying to practice music improvisation and I would like to have some guitar chords playing to help me. Where can I find just some accoustic guitar playing th same thing non-stop (or for long enough to allow me to play along) or something like that?

I typically record them myself and then improvise over top of that. I use Audacity on my computer and sit down with my acoustic guitar and record a rhythm track. Sometimes I add in drums from my Zoom pedal which has a rhythm machine on it. Then I play that track back on my computer and improvise over top of it with my electric guitar. If I get something that sounds great I can hit record and record the lead on another track and save it for later when I might add some vocals or other stuff.

You could also buy a looper pedal which will repeat a sample over and over. Most of the better ones allow you to loop multiple samples simultaneously and have tap start and stop so you can record and play back hands free.

well assuming you aren't using the mixer to play with it usually goes in this order amp<pedal<guitar usually amps have an external output for mixers and such and usually a looper goes along with the pedals
