Are there any famous classical guitarists out there that don't play with their nails? And are they still able to play fast?

Answer
You are talking about classical - nylon string guitar, yes?
I can't really see how playing with your finger nails versus your finger flesh has anything to do with speed. However, it has a lot to do with sound, and I haven't seen or heard anyone that relies on just using the fingers - no nails.
Mind you, I can be wrong of course :-) It's just that the use of the nails is such an integral part of classical guitar - after all that's the "pick".
For example, you can see in this video: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/262179/martha_masters_classical_guitar_jam_part_1/ how the nails on the artists right hand is very long (where the thumb nails act almost as a pick), while the nails on the fretting hand is short.
Or here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIiaY_MScUc - observe the different in finger nail length on the right versus the left (fretting) hand - it would be very hard to get this kind of things pulled off without having the finger nails trimmed correctly.

Why can't women just clip their nails to use the iPhone?

The iPhone will only respond to the electrical charges emitted by your bare fingertips. Women with long nails are complaining that it won't work for them.

Just keep your fingernails short. It's just like playing guitar. Short nails are needed for that too.

Answer
Long nails are dirty too. If you figure only half of all women wash their hands after using the potty, ewwwwww. That means that half of those women with those long nails have urine and feces under their nails even if not visible to your eyes. And food that gets under them and not all nose pickers wash their hands. So those fake nails have real bacteria. Yuck.

As a woman I find them disgusting. And you know those women are not doing dishes either. The more that is fake on a woman, the lazier she is. I guess they can get someone else to use their phone for them just like they have someone else doing their housework.

Ok I play guitar and I have this really bad habit of biting the skin around my finger nails but I don't bite my nails sometimes I'll go 3 or 4 months without playing my guitar but my nails just won't grow. And if they do they are very brittle and chip and crack very easily what can I do?

Answer
Buy a bottle of the 5 Day Miracle Growth polish from Sally Hanson. It makes your nails stronger, & after 5 days they grow quicker & they don't break as easily. It come in loads of colours but I just use clear as I can't be bothered to do the touch ups. Plus it makes my nails very shiny ;)

Girls: Is a guy that has guitar nails a turnoff?

guitar nails
 on Classical Guitar Nails

Sean

So, I'm a 15 year old guy, and on my right hand my nails are a little bit long, and there shaped a certain way, and my thumb nail is pretty long to help me finger pick on guitar. My nails arent dirty or anything, but one of my female friends told me that I should cut them because it doesn't look good. I feel pretty self conscious about them now, but should I cut them and are they a turnoff?

Answer
I've played guitar since my college days, and early on, I waffled between using my 'natural finger picks' and artificial ones (I only have a use for them on the big 3 -- thumb, forefinger, middle finger -- guitar-numbering: T, 1, 2; piano numbering: 1, 2, 3). I found the artificial ones just don't work as well. And because I am awkward with a flat pick, I always use a thumb pick, so I really only need my nails on 1 and 2, not T.

And now that I've brought the piano back into my life (it was my first instrument, from childhood), and split my music time between the two, I've found the need to compromise, and keep them only a little long.

All the girls I've befriended have been unfazed by and completely understanding of the fingernail thing -- I've never found it to be a problem. But your actual mileage will differ, and you really just have to decide among:
•1 doing what you need to do to get & stay good on the guitar, and rely on girls to adapt/accept
•2 doing what you need to do to get & keep a girl, and find a way to deal with the guitar using finger picks
•3 finding a compromise between 1 & 2; maybe try your power of persuasion that it shouldn't be a big deal

If there's a girl you really dig and she won't accept the long nails, you'll probably want to go with #2, but ultimately, only you can decide. All I can advise for sure is, don't base your decision on a survey of girls in general -- focus on someone you might hope to hit it off with.
