I have a fender strat, fender cable, and Guitar Rig 5 on my laptop.

What's the best way to connect my guitar to laptop and record the sound/video?

Can I record the video with my webcam, and record the sound directly off Guitar Rig 5? I also have Audacity installed

Answer
A guitar to USB cable. There are some technical issues caused by user error due to lack of instructions.

1. Have no sound? The device needs to be listed as an input device on the computer. the way you will hear the guitar, such as with speakers, amp or headphones, is the output.

2. Hear crackling noises or delays while you play? You will need an ASIO driver such as ASIO4ALL. You will need to play with the buffer size and frequency.

There are multiple ways to record the sound and video. The easiest way is to output the pusic from the computer and record everything by camera with a built in mic. The more complex way is to use a mixer (hardware) with sofware such as Windows Movie Maker.

Having sound problem with Guitar Rig 5?

i connected the guitar in the mic and am using my speakers as output .Whenever I am choosing any preset ,it is making an extremely low frequency sound(like "kiiiii") when I palm-mute the guitar. How to stop this from happening?

Answer
Get an audio interface designed for the purpose.

If you are using the mic input on your computer, then your guitar signal is not getting enough of a boost to be usable by the software.

The fact that you are trying to use your computer as an amplifier is the source of your problem here. Guitar Rig (and similar programs) is meant to allow you to practice silently with headphones, and record guitar tracks to a computer-based recording setup.

So, the short answer to your question "How to stop this from happening?" is: Don't do that in the first place.

Can you use Guitar Rig Pro by Native Instruments without a guitar?? FL Studio?

I like the sounds on guitar rig 5 but I dont have a guitar and i was wondering if I could use it in FL Studio with just the keypad like you do with other VST's. I thought I read somewhere that it might be possible to use normal bass and guitar presets and still use the guitar rig pro's effects. Is that possible?

Basically, Is there any way I can use it without a guitar and just open up piano roll and draw out the notes while still getting the effects?? I know it has presets... Thanks in advance.

Answer
Yes, the Guitar Rig Pro software can be used as an effect plug-in in FL Studio. You can put it on any audio source, including channels with native FL Studio instruments, 3rd party software instruments, sampler channels and audio recordings.

Or is there any amp software that i can get to use this? I would like to play my electric guitar using an amp on the computer, and also maybe record some of it. Will this Rocksmith guitar to USB cable work with any software? And if so, is there any other software I might be able to use?

Answer
I've used the cable on 2 amp software so far and it worked fine though with different method of registering it. With ReValver MKIII.V standalone mode it was as simple as setting the Audio mode to MME and set the input to Rocksmith USB Cable. With Fruity Loops I had to use Asio4ALL program checking advance enabling both Rocksmith cable and soundcard, then from the FX options in FL chose the cable for input. In Fruity Loops I can record and use many free amp VST without a problem with the USB Cable.

I play guitar and I recently bought a Way Huge Swollen Pickle fuzz pedal. I've read many reviews which say it sounds amazing but I just cant hear it through what I 'm playing. I live in an apartment so it's kind of hard to keep 4X12 cabs in their so I use modeling amps like the Fender Mustang and programs like Amplitube and Guitar Rig 5. Is it the pedal or the amps?

Answer
Hello there,

You should be able to play the Way Huge pedal through a Mustang amp. The problem with playing any pedal through an amp with built in effects is that it is hard to dial in the tone you want. The pedal sort of conflicts with the built in effects, especially if you are using the built in distortion, overdrive or similar effect. It is best to play your pedals through a clean channel.

I can't figure it out, it's not popping up as a vst.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Drivers installed? Yes.

Answer
Audacity -> preferences -> Devices tabe, recording, does your Rig 5 show up there? The default will be line in normally.

What OS?
If it's Windoze have you installed drivers? Most other OS's won't need drivers usually. Windows ALWAYS needs drivers.

How can i get the right guitar tone with high volume?

I have a Jackson guitar and an old crate 150w amp. i got a digitech metal master pedal for Christmas that i absolutely love...but when i turn the amp up to play with my band the tone is affected and doesn't sound as crisp and bright. help?

Answer
I think the other answerer who mentioned high gain had a good point. Too much gain = muddy, fuzzy, indistinct, or mushy tones. Consider lowering the gain on your pedal a little.

There is a strong correlation between treble response and volume... as you raise your volume, you will need to tweak your treble settings. Normally I would say its the other way around... as you turn up the volume you usually find yourself turning the treble down, if anything.... So try boosting your treble next time.... *or* try cutting your bass. Your headroom is affected by the amount of bass you're putting into your amp than any other factor.... so if you want clarity at high volumes you need lots of headroom, and that means minimizing the amount of bass that goes into your amp.

Does the Metal Master have a bass knob? Turn it down - say, 3 notches or so. Don't scoop your mids on your amp too much, either.... mids = volume, and no volume means you get lost in the mix, which means you'll try boosting other frequencies to make up for it, which means you'll end up sounding like poo. Don't cut your mids - put them at 5, or at least no lower than 4. You should notice an immediate improvement in how your amp sounds when you're playing with the band. It may not sound as good to you when playing solo, but its a whole different story when playing with the band (or recording!)... you have to tailor your sound to "fit in".

Something that I do with my guitars is slope the pickups down a little so that they're closer to the treble strings (top three strings, ie E, B, G) than the bass strings. This reduces the bass output a little from your guitar.... you don't have quite as much "chunk", but you can compensate for this with your rig. The important thing to recognize is that it helps keep your lower end tight and subdued, not boomy, muddy, or farty.

Hope some of this helps!

Saul
