i was looking for something that i could plug into my amp and into the pc and it would record? or something? i'm a little confused with this, sounds like when you plug this in its playing unplugged as in no amp in?

Answer
It's designed to plug your guitar directly into the computer. If your amp has a "line-out" or "record-out" you could use this cable to connect your amp to the computer. Then you could plug the guitar into the amp and the amp into the computer via the USB. I can't vouch for how well this particular cable works, but I've used similar adapters to connect analog devices into the USB port.

I want to be able to record myself singing to post on my Youtube account, but I have a shoddy camera with a broken mic and a Guitar Hero USB mic. I was wondering what applications or programs I could use that would be compatible with this mic?

Answer
If it works like a regular USB mic, then any program for recording audio should be able to use it. The best free one is Audacity. (audacity.sourceforge.net).

You need a driver for it that makes Windows see it as a standard input device. This may be part of Guitar Hero, or it might be a separate driver you have to install.

What is the BEST way to record an acoustic guitar?

guitar to usb
on ... sustainer guitar effects pedal $ 24 99 behringer guitar center

Jeff C

I have been playing for so long and I haven't recorded anything before! This needs to change. I was wondering what was the bet way to record an acoustic guitar to a macbook, including acoustic electric ones. Is it better to mic a guitar or use a guitar-to-USB setup to record onto a computer (JamLab, for instance)? I have a Taylor 314CE (badass, I know) if it is of any help.

Answer
I'm partial to recording acoustic guitars with a matched pair of condenser mics... the pencil kind. Position them equidistant from the soundhole. The one on the players right (assuming a right-handed player) should point almost right at it. The one on the players left should be at more of an angle. This way you'll capture more of the sound of the instrument as it really sounds to someone standing there, and with a Taylor, I'm sure that's awesome.

In order to do this on a mac, you're going to need some sort of audio interface that supports simultaneous recording from two XLR inputs (which means it will probably connect to your mac via firewire), and also can supply phantom power (since you'll be using condenser mics)

You want the best? Well go with these:

Something like this for your interface:

Of course, you'll still need a good DAW to record stuff in, so why not go Pro Tools and get the software and a great interface at the same time?
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MBox2ProFact/

These aren't cheap options, but you did say "the BEST" and short of buying an HD system and building a live room in your basement, this is the way to go. (You should do acoustically treat the room you're going to record in). Also, by the way you're bragging about your Taylor, I'm guessing you're no slouch and have the cash to throw down on decent equipment.

Is there an adapter for USB headphones to guitar amp jack?

I know there are guitars with USB inputs in them, and I know there are amps with usb inputs, but is there an adapter for USB headphones, that will turn into a guitar amp jack?

If not I suppose I'll have to save money for amp headphones :\ but that would suck.

Answer
I have never, in my life, seen a guitar with ANY sort of input. Let alone a USB one.

Guitars have outputs. Sound comes OUT of them.

I've never seen an amp with a USB input either.

I take it that you have a pair of USB headphones that you would like to connect to the headphone OUT jack on your amp, which I assume is a 1/4" TRS jack.

The equipment you need to do this would easily cost more than a new pair of headphones. Do you REALLY not have a single pair of headphones that aren't USB? I really do find that hard to believe.

Go to RadioShack and ask for an 1/8" female to 1/4" male TRS adapter. It should look like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062468

If you really don't have another pair of headphones, buy these: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&biw=1440&bih=663&q=sony+headphones&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=8211118125321107406&sa=X&ei=eDs7Tp7EM9HKiAL3hMHaCw&ved=0CH8Q5Q0wAg

Those are THE BEST headphones you can buy for under $25. They sound quite good, they are very durable, and they come with the aforementioned adapter.

I have a stealthplug cable that goes from 1/4 guitar cable to usb and I know the mac is picking it up because the cable has a built in volume control and I can change the volume on the computer with it. However when I go to select the input I only get the mic on the computer. Help?

Answer
Are you sure it is Mac comparable? Not all guitar devices are comparable with a Mac computer.

The wired 360 guitars are USB, so I would think you would be able to plug in to your computer and play. Just makin sure.

Answer
You need to find a driver for the guitar, then it'll work. I'm not sure where to find one, so google is your best friend there.

Or is there any amp software that i can get to use this? I would like to play my electric guitar using an amp on the computer, and also maybe record some of it. Will this Rocksmith guitar to USB cable work with any software? And if so, is there any other software I might be able to use?

Answer
I've used the cable on 2 amp software so far and it worked fine though with different method of registering it. With ReValver MKIII.V standalone mode it was as simple as setting the Audio mode to MME and set the input to Rocksmith USB Cable. With Fruity Loops I had to use Asio4ALL program checking advance enabling both Rocksmith cable and soundcard, then from the FX options in FL chose the cable for input. In Fruity Loops I can record and use many free amp VST without a problem with the USB Cable.

Phable

I have a very simple question about guitar. If I purchase a guitar USB cable and plug it into my computer, will I still be able to play through my PC even though I don't have a MIDI guitar?

Answer
I wouldn't think so.

A real electric guitar is like a generator. The string vibrate in a magnetic field. That creates energy that is sent to the amp. The amp boosts the signal and sends it to the speaker.

There is nothing inside a cpu to do that job.
