i was looking for something that i could plug into my amp and into the pc and it would record? or something? i'm a little confused with this, sounds like when you plug this in its playing unplugged as in no amp in?

It's designed to plug your guitar directly into the computer. If your amp has a "line-out" or "record-out" you could use this cable to connect your amp to the computer. Then you could plug the guitar into the amp and the amp into the computer via the USB. I can't vouch for how well this particular cable works, but I've used similar adapters to connect analog devices into the USB port.
