What are some good beginner guitars?(electric and acoustic)?

I'm need a hobby, so I chose the guitar! I don't know if I want to play the acoustic or the electric. I was thinking about purchasing the guitar for dummies set. Is it a hard instrument? I played trumpet for about 9 years and that was a difficult instrument, but brass is different than strings. Anyway, what are some tips for beginners?
Also, what are some good guitars?

learn songs on electric guitars because its easier to hold down the frets compared to acoustic guitars. Also, learn how to read tabs because you can learn a lot of songs through tabs on www.ultimate-guitar.com
