Would i be able to plug a bass guitar into a stereo receiver using a y cable?
Also would i be able to plug it directly into a computer with the right cords [which i think i have already, just dont know what they are called]

Your bass pickups need to be amplified with a preamplifier.
You *can* plug the bass directly into the 'line' input of your stereo, but it will sound very weak. You'll probably have to turn the volume all the way up on your bass AND on the stereo to hear it.
If you plug your bass into your computer -- use the microphone input. You might have to get a Direct Box to adapt the impedance difference between the bass and the low impedance of the microphone input.
A Direct box between your stereo and bass wouldn't be a bad idea, either.
