I am interested about this, let's say for an example i have a guitar, distortion pedal and an amplifier, and cables of course. The guitar should be plugged into the amplifier, the amplifier in the power socket, the pedal into the amplifier (If i had mistaken this correct me, or confirm if it's right please). And can two guitars use one distortion pedal ? Or they have to use two at least ?
Thank You.

Answer
It depends on the equipment... more commonly:

Guitar plugs into the Input of the distortion pedal #1;
the Output of pedal #1 plugs into the next pedal's (#2) input;
the output of pedal #2 plugs in to the amp.

Each instrument (in this case each guitar) needs to have it's own pedal(s).

There are amps with effects built-in and they would have a special plug for that effects pedal and no place to plug in an instrument.

If you plug two instruments into 1 pedal, which intrument is the pedal distorting for? Or... if you plug two instruments into the same amp with the built-in effects, how does that amp's electronics know which instrument gets which effects?
