guitar vinyl decal image

i'm going to apply a printed vinyl decal on my guitar body (it has been painted).. what are the tips/orecautions i should know about doing this? also, i need to know is how to seal it in.. i read that clear coating it with lacquer based spray might smudge the ink.. will this happen even if i spray very light passes..? is there any other method of sealing the vinyl in without causing major build-up on the guitar body (it affects the tone of the guitar)..
Answer
make sure the paint is properly dry...with a lint free clothe clean with methylated spirit...apply the decal...the decal adhesive will stick better...the ink in the decal should already be sealed..a few light coats of laquer...with the guitar in a horizontlal position (don`t rush the drying time between coats)..make sure the this is all done in a dust free place...and no "stairway to heaven" until it`s dry ..
