Is it possible to get an allergic reaction from nickel guitar strings?

I just baught some DR guitar strings for my electric guitar, and i was wondering if i possibly could get an allergic reaction from them, since they are nickel coated. I have a gig in about a month, and will this effect my playing if i get an allergic reaction? I do not want to mess up my fingers so i can't practice/play at the gig.

Can someone please help, thanks...

Yes nickel can cause contact dermatitis a form of skin allergy .to avoid this you have to wear gloves
