guitar les paul image

I was just looking at guitars at gibson, and I only saw four different electric guitars; Les Paul, flying v, explorer, and the sg. All of which where designed in 50's through 70's. Though they might have come out with different features and colors, they were all the same. Why?
Answer
Because some companies use the motto if it ain't broken don't fix it And it cost money to introduce a new model and some companies don't like taking risks
the explorer, flying v, firebird , thunderbird etc were flops for the most part when the were introduced to the market and didn't gain much acceptance until the early 90's when bands started to use them
