I've got a tiny five milimetre hair thin peice of brass in my foot. Will it eventually erode away?

It hurts quite a bit and effects surrounding muscles. But I've had it in there for 6 months after I trod on a peice of curl around guitar wire. The Dr couldn't see it on the x-ray and so I thought what if the surgeon couldn't either? But it was there, just barely visable, sort in a curly loop and dug in deep into the flesh. Just wondering if other people have experienced brass and other metals in the body and what happens over time.
