Ok would it be alright to use wood or furniture polish on the neck of the guitar and what can i use to clean the metal dividers on the neck. I have a Stratocaster.

Answer
METAL:

For the frets, or "metal dividers" use brasso.

Here's how: apply masking tape to the wood around the frets, so that the brasso doesn't touch it.
Apply brasso with an old tooth brush and wait a few minutes.
Rub the brasso off with an old cloth.

Done! Shinier than new!

WOOD:

For the neck wood:
Rub the wood clean with a cloth drenched in zippo liquid.
Use your tooth brush (and zippo fluid) to get at all the black greasy dirt that builds up by the frets.
Then can use almond oil or a cheap substitute. A few drops on a piece of cloth will do it.
Rub thoroughly until your fretboard shines!

It's important to oil the wood not only so that it looks good, but to make it last for longer.

if you have any further questions, shoot them my way!

PS. Furniture polish might do the trick (for the body), but you're better off with guitar polish
