What is the best deal on a guitar loop pedal?
guitar looper image
ISS5731
I want to get a looping pedal for my guitar (something that I can press down, play some chords, and then it plays them back over and over again so I can play over them). Im looking at guitar center, but I'm not sure what the best brand and what exactly I should be looking for in one. Basically, please give me advice on a brand, where to get it, how much it should cost, and what specs it should have.
Thanks!
Answer
Dude, if you can afford it the Line 6 JM4 is incredible. It is expensive, $329 but calling it a looper is a slap in the face. I bought mine at GC. It is basically just the brains out of the Spider Jam. Obviously you can loop, but it also has hundreds of great models and hundreds of drum tracks, not drum machine crap, but actual drummers like Carmine Appice, Jason Bonham, etc. laying down killer grooves to play chord progressions over. It also has hundreds of full jam tracks to play lead over. Whether you are looping or playing with drum/jam tracks you can record and over-dub right on the JM4. You can save 24 minutes of CD quality recording to the on-board memory or add a 2 GB SD card and get over 6 hours of recording. You can then transfer to your PC via SD and burn your recordings to CD. There are also inputs for bass/keyboard and an XLR input for a vocal mic. You can basically do everything from this one piece of equipment. A little expensive compared to a regular loop station, but is by far the coolest and most helpful thing I have ever purchased concerning guitar. If you just want a basic Loop Station get the Boss RC-2 but for another $140 you get the some of the best musicians in the world as your personal jam band and full recording capabilities.

What are some crafts other than necklaces and bracelets that you can make out of guitar picks?
guitar picks image
chris_spro
I want to make some really cool things to wear made out of guitar picks because I have uniforms next year and I want to stand out from everybody else (not that I don't already) and thought some funky crafts made with guitar picks would be perfect.
Answer
hatbands
macrame them into a guitar strap with colored hemp twine
bead them onto the back of a jacket so it says your band's name
buy scrunchies and sew them on it so it's a plucky scrunchie! (Sorry! couldn't resist!)
make a watchband or headband
make them into a long fringe for a vest, pants or poncho
sew them down the sides of your pant legs in a stripe
make a chain mail jerkin (medieval vest) out of them by hooking them together with metal o-rings
make a chain mail purse or cell phone case
make key chains
make a lap counter out of them
do what my band does and save them in a picky bank, then toss them to the audience during your last song

What is the defination of acoustics?
guitar electroacoustic image
Angelaa
Not the kind with guitars and junk, i mean the one that has to do with how well sound travels in a room and stuff, and how well a room echoes.
Can someone give me the defination of that type of acoustics?
Answer
Acoustics is the science of sound. Or, more technical terms "... the generation, transmission and reception of energy in the form of vibrational waves in matter." * A huge number of scientific problems and disciplines fit into this definition.Acoustics is by its very nature an inter-disciplinary field, drawing people from a widely differing backgrounds. A person who works as an 'acoustician' might be a physicist studying acoustic wave propagation, a mechanical engineer trying to control noise and vibration, an electrical engineer designing a new electroacoustic transducer, a civil engineer designing the acoustic properties of a building, an experimental psychologists studying psychoacoustics, a physician doing research in audiology, a computer programmer designing the sound effects for the newest computer game, just to list a few possibilities.

I've been playing classical fingerstyle guitar for quite some time now. However, I just purchased an electric. It's alot of fun!
Unfortunately I'm not really sure what to play on it. I don't know how to do lead solo yet. Any songs that include some easy solos would be awesome! Thanks

What are some songs with easy guitar tabs?

Flip Flops
My choir teacher wanted me to sing any song of my choice (cuss words not allowed though) and play the guitar along with it for our concert. I can't find any song with easy guitar tabs. Key word- EASY! Does anyone know any song with easy guitar tabs? =]~~~
Answer
Redemption Song.
I recommend Joe Strummer and the Mescelaros' version.
Though that's chords. If you're looking for tabs, go with Enter Sandman and shock your teachers a bit.
EDIT: If you're a true beginner, search 'open fifths'. That will make your job even easier, but people will see it as cheating.

What's a good beginner electric guitar?
guitar aerobics image
Amanda
I'm 14 in 9th grade. I have never picked up a guitar before in my life.-. I really want to play! I listen to really fast paced music and id LOVE to learn how to play some. I'm right handed and my left hand is really uncoordinated. which is bad because I'm pretty sure left hand does the most work. I want to know if I should even attempt to try to play because of that or if I should. if so, what's a.good beginning guitar. I have a budget of about a thousand dollars. And what all do you need? I know you need a pick, probably amps, and straps if it doesn't already have one...right? Please help. I'm deciding whether this is right for me. so please tell me your opinion!
Answer
The right hand does just as much work as the left. From alternate picking, string skip picking, Arpeggios, Sweep picking etc.... I would get a guitar with humbuckers . Ibanez sells some guitars at 350 to 500 bucks with humbucker pickups and they are good for beginners.
As for Amp get a regular basic practice amp and test it out, get one that has clean and distortion mode.
Some pedals I recommend you should get are by a company called Behringer ( They sell pedals for 4 times cheaper than other companies) also I got a book that can teach you how to play that I recommend. Here are links for some pedals that are great and a book. Guitar and amp use your judgement.

Can i hook up a guitar with a usb cable to Fruity Loops?
guitar usb cable image
Matt
I'm thinking of going out and buying a usb cable for my guitar so I can record some of the music I make. I have fruity loops and don't know if i'll be able to sync it up with my guitar. so if someone could help me, OR if I can't do this, someone please suggest some good software I can use with my guitar. Thank you guys!
Answer
You can do it actually. IF your guitar has a USB output(newer ones do) and you have a low latency sound card. My bass guitar only has a normal output jack, but I play it through my pc using the mic input. I cant use it in fruity though cause my soundcard is not low latency, so there is a very slight delay when I play it that way, which is very offputting.
What you need to do though is install the ASIO4ALL drivers first though, and set up FL to use the asio drivers instead of directx or soundcard drivers.
You then need to setup the IN input on a channel on the mixer and it will work no problem.
If you look in the help file for fruity it does describe this step by step, but it is easy to do.
Another alternative is Guitar Rig, its rather cool as it has all sorts of pedals and effects and stuff. Its tons of fun.

Do u think radiohead's hail to the thief fits under the category of guitar music?
guitar music image
Bob Reed
You have ok computer which is recognized as guitar music and u have kid a which is seen as electronic music. So what would u categorize hail to the thief?
Answer
Hail to the Thief seems like a mix of both electronic and guitar music to me. You have songs like "Go To Sleep" and "2 + 2 = 5" that have a lot of guitar in it. But then there's songs like "Backdrifts" and "The Gloaming". Honestly, the only category I'd put this album under is amazing. It's melodic, it's beautiful, it's moody. This album is so underrated. It's my favorite besides OK Computer too. But according to Wikipedia, the album's genre is "alternative rock." But that's Wikipedia... Anyway, maybe it's best not to categorize Radiohead's genius music, but to just enjoy it as an unnamed genre.

How can I make a remote switch for my guitar amp?
guitar wall mount image
Sebastian
I'm planning on wall mounting my guitar amp in a corner and I want to know how to make a remote switch so I can have my guitar by my bed and just pick up and play. Could I use old RC car parts? How long would the battery for the receiver last (to see if its even worth the trouble) any information you can give will help.
Answer
If you are handy with electronics I don't see why using old RC car parts wouldn't work. You could use one channel interfaced to a power relay to turn the amp off and on and re-purpose the steering servo to control volume. If you do use them that way I would power the receiver with an AC power adapter rather than battery power so you don't have to worry about the battery running out on the receiver.
Hope I've pointed you in the right direction, good luck.

Do those video games such as Rocksmith really teach people how to learn guitar? Are they effective?
guitar tools image
cannonball
I have been playing guitar a long time and I was just curious to see if these types of games are effective guitar teaching tools.
Answer
Edit: Woops, that'll teach me to reed a bit better ROFl. but still, Like I said, you want to stay away from such games for the most part, as a Learn or Teaching Tool. They are great to have a bita fun, but 9/10 times, all they do is build bad playing habits, or are simply not very effective.
I'd op away from any game that claims to "teach" you how to play guitar, more so for Rock ones, as Rock in general is not a very good style to learn for someone with little or not experience. If anything, learn country or blue grass, they are a tad hard to start out with as well, but they'll teach you everything you need to know. After that, it's just finding what you like the best. There ARE several "games" that can help you learn the basics, but their result vary widely from person to person. Here's a quick list of some of the more popular ones.
http://guitar-lesson-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
The best bet to learn ANY instrument though is to be taught by a real life living person; If you are still in school, see about joining the band (it's a long shot, but some school's allow Guitar), or if not, check your local community College (a possibility even if you are still in school).

Can different tuning pegs/keys change the sound quality of a guitar, even if they fit?
guitar tuning pegs image
Timothy
Do they tuning pegs/keys on a guitar affect the sound quality of the guitar? Can they decrease or improve sound quality?
Answer
Changing the weight of the tuning machines will probably have a very slight effect on sound quality, on account of changing the mass of the peghead. But it's probably going to be undetectable to the average human being (or even most musicians).

Like posters, a rug, blanket, lamp, etc.
Where can i get this stuff?
I know i can probably get them from ebay (i've already bought some posters from there) but is there a store that has lots of Bob Marley related items?
Thanks!

How much should I sell these instruments for on Craigs List?
guitar cases hard acoustic image
Bastian Ba
I have a child size acoustic Squier guitar and hard case, a child size Cremona violin with two bows in a nice hard case, and a regular size Gemeinhardt flute in a nice hard case, all used.
I want to sell them on craigs list, they're all in fairly good condition. Does anyone know how much I could sell them for?
Answer
I don't know what area you live in but unless you're really pressed for time you might have better luck on EBay. I've recently tried to sell some items on Craigslist that I don't need (computer equipment, big screen TV) and the responses I got were jokes. For one thing there is a big scam on Craigslist where people offer to buy your item for more than you ask for it, and then try to get you to ship it to a third party address in Nigeria using a fake Paypal account. I didn't fall for this myself but this scam is very widely known on Craigslist.
The "real" people who responded all either offered to buy my stuff for jokingly low amounts or they wanted me to take payments, hold a check for weeks, things like that. I didn't find any of the replies I got on Craigslist to be from serious buyers.
Then I listed them on EBay and got almost exactly what I wanted for them, hassle free.
You should do some online research to get an idea of what your items are worth. No matter where you post them, you need to ask a reasonable price and the only way to do that is to research.
Hope this helps.

What are some good inexpensive pickups for a 12 string electric guitar? And a normal 6 string electric guitar?
guitar kits build your own image

I'm thinking about buying a kit for building a double neck guitar i found for $100, but the pickups it comes with are crap. So what would be some good, not too expensive pickups i could buy for this?
Answer
It all begins with strings. Now that you're going to be doing your own set-up work, it's time for you to start knowing the differences between string materials, gauges, and tensions. It's also important that you pick a specific type of string and stick with it on that particular instrument. Your guitar will quite literally be set-up entirely around the strings you put on it. Even though different manufacturers offer the same gauge strings, the tension each string exerts on the neck will vary considerably between different brands. Put it this way: switching gauges or even brands requires a full setup to bring your guitar back into its best playing condition. You'll also find that certain strings work better with certain guitars; there's nothing wrong with this. For example, my Strat uses .010-.046 Fender Nickel Wound Original Bullets, but my Ibanez Joe Satriani uses .009-.042 DR Tite Fits.

What kind of guitar strings should I get?

I have an electric guitar and I am a beginner. What kind of guitar strings should I get?
Answer
All guitars sound different, and all strings sound different, and logically all different strings sound different on all different guitars. In other words Ernie Ball strings sound different on my Les Paul than they do on my friend's ESP.
To find the best strings for you, you have to try a few until you find your favorite. Since you're a beginner I'd suggest you start with Ernie Ball Slinky in 10 gauge. Most ppl find under 9 gauge to be hard not to accidentally bend. Over 11 gauge ppl find hard to intentionally bend. I suggest you find your favorite thickness of string right away because the thickness you learn on is most likely to be the thickness you prefer forever.
It also helps to pick a type of string if you know a little about them. Lighter strings sound lighter but they're easier to play to a certain extent. Heavier strings sound heavier and also louder but they are harder to maneuver on and they hurt your fingers more at first (but you do get used to it all the same). Also look up the different materials strings are made of. Electric guitar strings are usually made of a steel core with nickel winding but also come in many other combinations including alloys. Different materials produce different sounds. Again you have to look around a bit and find your favorite.
