Q. I am 22, have been playing guitar for a little over 10 years now, and have always had a really good ear. (It only took me a week to work out the entirety of Loudness' album 'Thunder in the East.') How can I get a job transcribing for a guitar magazine?

Guitar world is just a company like any other. What would you do if you wanted to work at a company close to where you live? Follow the same procedure. If possible, try to find out who the right person to talk to at guitar wolrd is. Contact them for a job directly if you can.
Another thing you can do is do a few transcriptions yourself. Make it very professional. Publish it to a PDF and in print. Again, be sure it looks professional. Use that as sample work for Guitar wolrd or any other publisher that needs transcriptions. Anyone who hires you will want to see what you have done already.
