How much do you like electric guitar distortion?

I don't know is it just me or do people hate the distortion made from electric guitar? I bought Babel by Mumford & Sons and later found out many songs are full of electric guitar distortion. It is just irritating!

I can't remember the last time I switched my Marshall to the clean channel, but if you do not like it, it's understandable, folks went crazy when Bob Dylan plugged in and electrified folk music.
