A while back I met a kid who had a Dean Acoustic Guitar. His guitar had the Exotic Quilted Ash Finish. I have an idea for an art piece, sort of a sculpture I guess, and I want the wood to have that look. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW I CAN CREATE THAT LOOK!? Like a wood stain or finish or something? Help me 0.0

Answer
As Mike says, you can either use that wood as veneer, which means you can buy wood as a thin layer which you then can glue onto a surface. Depending on the shape of your sculpture this might be easy or next to impossible. Basically you have a stiff two dimensional sheet which you will need to fit to your shape.

Or you can check out faux finishes. Since it's an rather irregular pattern it would require a lot of practice. Simpler wood grain patterns can be achieved with tools like a woodgraining rocker/tool (e.g. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/paint/brushes-rollers-trays/wood-graining-kit-97790.html#.UCkwFaFlS8A), but for something like that you'd have to experiment quite a bit. Also most faux finishing techniques are for simple and flat surfaces.

And I think this is the finish you want: http://www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk/us/store/image/202900767712863/dean-exotica-quilted-ash-left-handed-acoustic-electric-guitar-gloss-natural/

maybe if you make your own wood graining tool by cutting linoleum...
