How can I keep an interesting conversation?

I text this guy quite a bit and he's very intelligent. He's 18 years old and is going to become a preacher. He likes philosophy, guitar, video games, rock music, and is really passionate about God. What kind of things can I ask him to keep our conversations interesting? What makes a person interesting?

Answer
Repeat some of the things he says. And anything he brings up you can ask questions about. Show interest in them; both verbally and non-verbally (smilling, laughing, etc.). Now you're on your way.
