That's about it.... They are made to "emulate" the feel of a solid-body electric for players who are more familiar with them.
Usually, they have rather poor acoustic sound, but it doesn't matter since most of 'em are acoustic-electrics and will be plugged in anyway.
I don't know any serious acoustic players that like 'em.
I played one of the Fenders at the local Guitar Center and was not impressed.
